Beginnings vs Endings

It's the Marvel movie they haven't made but probably are considering as the Marvel people read this. Obviously. The battle everyone wants to see:

Sunrise vs Sunset

OR

Beginnings vs Endings

Which do you prefer? Waking up with those pink clouds and a whole day stretched out before you. Or, closing the day with fading ember rays while you cozy up for the night, knowing the work of the day is done (HOPEFULLY).

I have to say, I'm probably a Sunrise girl. Especially now that I live overlooking Lake Michigan, where the sun rises each morning making every day feel special.

But, in books, the answer is a lot more difficult. Deciding between the beginning of a story when everything is fresh and new and you don't know what is going to happen versus the ending when all of the major conflic presumably is resolved, and you're SO invested in these characters and aching for a resolution for them but also you're not ready to leave them behind.

It's hard, right?

In ETERNAL NIGHT SOIREE, my Adult Fantasy, the book begins with a kidnapping and the announcment of a grand ball, and ends with said ball and couples who have been forced to spend time together for the earlier parts of the book, resulting in TENSION and some solid enemies to lovers action.

REALM OF THE CELESTIALS, my YA Fantasy, starts with a disappearance which leads Luna to unravel a centuries old mystery. The ending is all kinds of wrapped up in finally solving the mystery.

So which is more exciting?

I really can't choose, so I'm just writing words to see if the writing makes it easier but so far it's not working, so I'll leave it up to you to debate.

Which do you prefer? Let me know with examples of some of your favorite book beginnings and endings.

Would the middle of the novel be the noon or midnight?
