lost in flow

By now, you, my dearly dedicated readers, have probably read the widely circulating NYT article about Languishing (also definitely read the follow-up about Flourishing that doesn't leave us languishing about languishing). The article made a super interesting point about the antidote to languishing: flow.

Flow is that elusive state of absorption in a meaningful challenge or a momentary bond, where your sense of time, place and self melts away. - Adam Grant, There's a Name for the Blah You're Feeling: It's Called Languishing

I've always loved when a yoga class is called a flow. Because it's something that allows you to get lost and play and be present for that requires nothing of you other than to be and breathe. As yoga encompasses so much more than a physical set of postures, the concept of flow in life is equally wonderful. Especially as it pertains to adding joy to your life.

When I started this book, I was missing my normal routine and feeling that general sense of BLAH while working. Then a spark for this book and writing began to evaporate that sense of BLAH. Everyday, there were pages to write and new things to work on. And it felt great. Still feels great.

While I obviously hope this is a book readers will enjoy or delight in (or find that state of flow whilst reading), the sense of joy and purpose and newness this experience has given me is more than worth it regardless of how the finished manuscript is received (BUT PLEASE READ IT AND LOVE IT, K).

And I now know, I won't stop writing with this one book. Because writing has become something I look forward to flowing through everyday, and you can't give those things up.
